Dual Language Learners
What every Head Start agency needs to know

Nearly 1/3 of young children are growing up learning two or more languages.
Office of Head Start recently hosted the Dual Language Learner Celebration Week, a national event to support Head Start staff who work with dual language learners.
To mark the event, the Office of Head Start launched a series of professional development modules around effective teaching practices for Head Start dual language educators serving children zero to 5. Participants who finish the full course will receive a certificate and 0.2 continuing education credits (CEUs).
COPA helps Head Start staff record and report accurate Dual Language Learners (DLL) data.
- On the Child Data Sheet, users can track DLLs for any program and capture a child’s pre-IPT score – all in one place.
- Multi-lingual assessment tools, and various forms and applications are available in English and Spanish.
- Maintain a record of trainings and certificates staff receives in the Professional Development monitoring section.
